Yes, that’s right. An Instagram-themed hotel called 1888 has just opened in Pyrmont, Australia, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. The rooms are decorated with Instagram photos – and if you have more than 10,000 followers on Instagram you can, supposedly, stay for free!
I first found out about the hotel on Tnooz, a site for travel industry updates and info. You can read their article here. The hotel’s own website is less specific about the theme, but it does show the Instagram artwork in the bedrooms.
According to Tnooz, and an article in Mashable, as you enter the lobby, you are greeted by a revolving mural of Instagram photos. After check in, you are invited to snap a photo of yourself in a convenient photo frame. And if you use the hashtag #1888Hotel and post your best photos of the hotel and its photo-worthy decor, you can win a free night and other prizes.
The hotel is also set up for meetings and groups. Their conference room is “decorated by Instagram”, as well.
Here is the link to the hotel’s own website, which is pretty low key in promoting the Instagram connection: http://www.1888hotel.com.au/
So. What do you think?
Would you stay here? Do you think this idea for promotion through social media will work?
