These are my favorite go-to resources for travel. I'm kind of picky (some say diva-esque?) when it comes to travel gear. I've tried a lot of different travel gadgets, packing hacks and more, so you don't have to. Here are my favs. The items I don't leave home without.
PLANNING & PACKING
Seriously, you absolutely MUST have a travel scale these days. The cost of this baby is minimal compared to the time (and money) you'll waste trying to repack your bag at the airport or paying an excess baggage fee. Get one. Get one for your friends. Pack it when you travel, so you can use it on your return flight, too.
Ok, THIS is one of my all time favorite travel hacks, courtesy of Mr. H.
Keep a beachball (it doesn't have to be this cute travel-themed one) in your carry-on bag. When you just can't get comfortable, inflate it until almost (but not quite) full. Place it on the tray table in front of you and lean forward to rest your head on the top of the globe. Ahhhhhh...that feels good. You're going to thank me for this one!
These packing organizer cubes may seem OCD - but once you start using them, you'll never stop. Use one for your underwear, one for socks, one for leggings. Or, pack an entire outfit in each one. Pack by day of the week. Whatever works for you. It makes things so easy. The laundry bag is also great to have with you.
I love a classic, cross-body bag for traveling. It makes a good carry-on, plus if you muck in to one spot for a bit, you can empty it out and use it as a market bag, a shopper or a day-trip satchel. Perfect.
This is the best travel pillow. It converts from a neck pillow to a lumbar pillow for travel. You can bend it around and stuff it into that little space between the seat and the window for a more comfortable sleep on the plane. Even use it in your hotel room once you arrive.
Here's another great organizer for travel. Fill this cube with t-shirts, sweaters, whatever works for you. When you arrive at your hotel, cabin or castle, just open it up and voilá - hanging shelves pre-filled with your basics. Love. It.
I've seriously walked miles in a pair of Børn sandals almost identical to these. And they can work with jeans, shorts or a sundress.

I'm a Nikon girl. And this is my favorite of all the Nikons. When I studied photography at London's Royal College of Art I used an old Nikormat, borrowed from my brother. It looked a lot like this one. My favorite thing about this camera is that I can even use my brother's old, pre-digital lenses on this camera body (shooting manually) as well as my newer lenses. And I love the weight of it and how it feels in my hand.
I do find that I shoot a lot of images with my iPhone, too. So I like to have a few accessories for those days I'm traveling lighter. Like this cool wide angle lens for smart phones! Check it out:
This is just so much fun.
And honestly, it makes a great gift for your favorite photog or traveler.
And you don't have to stop there. Here's a way to turn your iPhone into an almost professional-style camera kit! There is a telephoto lens for the iPhone, a tripod and lots of other extras.
I keep a few travel packets of laundry detergent in my suitcase. You never know when you might need them. Woolite is nice, because even if you don't have access to a washing machine, you can hand wash in your hotel room, and it works well for just about everything. A sink stopper is a pretty good idea, too, especially if you are traveling for weeks at a time.
This candle though
I really love using this travel makeup bag. Throw all your primping gear into this drawstring water-resistant pouch. The bag opens out completely flat, which keeps everything all in one place on the counter, means repacking is super simple and makes it less likely that you'll leave your favorite lipstick behind.

At home, I love layering scent. Having body wash, lotion, perfume and deodorant that match makes me really happy. My favorite scents that come with deodorants are Bvlgari Green Tea, Aqua di Parma Colonia and Donna Karan's Cashmere Mist. But for simplicity's sake, I like this travel-sized stick that smells of vanilla. That means it is easy to layer with drug-store lotion, or its own matching roller-ball perfume.
