Hotel Love: Belmond Charleston Place

August 18, 2015 • By

I haven’t posted a hotel review for a while. But recently I booked a room through Jetsetter.com at the Belmond Charleston Place. The whole experience inspired a new Hotel Love feature. You can read about the entire trip here – but for now, let me tell you about the hotel…

We arrived to one of my favorite greetings of all time – “you’ve been upgraded”.

What About My Trip? What to Do if a Travel Site Goes Out of Business

May 25, 2015 • By

I recently received a special offer from a trusted travel site – a source I purchase from regularly online.   Okay, it was Gilt, in fact.  I’m a big fan of the members-only shopping site and I’m either pleased or embarrassed (depending on the day) to say that I am a Gilt Noir member in good standing.  That means I shop there a lot.  I trust them.  I like their style.  And they like me, too.  So occasionally they pass on special offerings.

This particular offer was through Luxury Link, a travel site that promises special, above-and-beyond experiences at the best hotels and resorts, worldwide. And Gilt was offering an additional percentage off to Noir members. Awesome! (Or so it seemed.)

Is This The World’s First Non-Profit Hotel?

April 29, 2014 • By

While visiting friends in Winter Park, Florida last weekend, I was treated to brunch at Hamilton’s Kitchen. Hamilton’s is located inside The Alfond Inn, a new boutique property that may be the world’s first non-profit hotel.

The lobby of the inn is bright and open, filled with contemporary art and modern Moorish influences. Hamilton’s opens onto the courtyard, and we chose a table outside. The weather was as perfect as you’d expect in a Florida resort town.
