Vacation Rental – Venice, Italy

November 11, 2015 • By

It’s been a while since I wrote a Vacation Rental of the Week post while sitting in the apartment I’m writing about. But I’m doing just that right now.

Today’s the day we leave our charming attic apartment in Venice, Italy.

This home stay was everything I had hoped it would be. The selection process started some time ago, and I now know I chose wisely. To be perfectly honest, I felt completely at home here, from the moment I opened the front door and kicked off my shoes…

The apartment could not be more conveniently located.

When you arrive by boat to the San Samuele dock, you are just steps away from the front door. And while the apartment is on the top floor, there is an elevator that deposits you there easily with all your bags.

We were greeted by our charming hostess, Signora Barbero and READ MORE

An Update from Venice

October 20, 2015 • By

I’ve been in Venice for a week and loved every quirky, cold, (sometimes sunny), delicious minute of it. I’ve loved it so much, I’ve not taken time to write about my trip!  What? I’m a travel blogger – this is not supposed to happen!

I have been taking photos – so here’s a quick update from Venezia. (I’m really hoping my Italian improves by the end of this trip!)

First of all, if you read regularly you may remember that I started planning this trip months ago and I let you in on my process for picking a vacation rental.  I’m 100% pleased with the apartment I selected.

Here’s what my vacation rental looks like:

Cityscapes and Car Windows

April 23, 2014 • By

Today I’m having fun with Passion Passport’s photo challenge on Cityscapes.  I love snapping a pic of a skyline or downtown street scene as my husband drives through a busy city.  (And to be honest, he lives for big city driving. He loves the challenge and intensity of it.  And since he’s good at it – I just sit back, stick my iPhone out the window and check out the view.)

Vacation Rental of the Week: Il Castello (The Castle)

August 1, 2013 • By

This is one of my all time favorite rentals – but I admit it is not for everyone.

My husband and I booked this ancient Italian castle for his birthday, gathering here with thirteen friends to enjoy a few evenings of opera at the Arena di Verona, do some sightseeing, swimming and relaxing with lots of homemade food and Italian wine.

I loved our vacation rental, but to be honest, two of our friends were less than enthusiastic about it.

You can decide for yourself if this is the kind of place you’d stay. I highly recommend it, but with caveats (listed at the end of this post).

Top 5 Design Details: Venice

May 28, 2013 • By

You can’t recreate Venice – and why would you want to, unless you’re a Vegas tycoon who knows a good thing when he sees it?  But with some quiet time and a roving eye, you can absorb the layered details that make Venice so unique.  Many of those details can easily translate into design ideas for your own spaces.

Venice, From the Canal

Venice, From the Canal

I love this photo, shot from a water taxi on a canal in Venice.  I like that I was able to get it lined up and fairly straight despite the movement of the camera (and the boat, and the water).  I love the Moorish/Italianate shapes of the columns and ornamentation.  But my absolute favorite thing is the two men in the upper left corner.
