Last weekend was full of stories – most of which I can’t tell here! The tales I do want to share are all about Florida style, though. As an example, check out yesterday’s story about a luxurious boutique hotel that raises money for college scholarships.
The second design story of the trip was getting to enjoy my friends’ new home in Winter Park. The house is beautiful and has excellent bones, as you would expect from a builder/designer like Phil Kean. In fact, the house was voted Home of the Year not too long ago.
But my friend S. is ready to update the interiors now that she’s beginning to settle into sub-tropical living. The look is too overtly Tuscan for her taste. (But remember how important that look was, for a while?) I can’t wait to see what she does with this beautiful space!
In the meantime, here’s a peak at what the house looks like now.
First up is the indoor/outdoor foyer, that connects the front entrance to the swimming pool. This house, like many in Florida, is all about indoor/outdoor living.
The walls between the great room and the swimming pool are all glass and can be slid back entirely for a living space that flows out freely onto the patio.
The Dining Room features an arched entrance, a beautiful, turquoise-colored ceiling and large chandelier.
These gorgeous vaulted ceilings can be read as Tuscan or Mediterranean now, but they could also make the new space feel European, Moorish or simply grand. In any case, I love them.
The Master Suite features a tiled accent wall and a double-sided fireplace, for luxurious soaks by the fire. My friend already has ideas for how to create a sleeker look here. But what a great canvas to start with!
S. and J.’s two dogs and three kids all seem to approve of the new digs.
I’m hoping I’ll get to post some more photos from this beautiful home when the family has completed the updates. In any case, what a lovely place for relaxing.
