I’m so excited about my latest vacation rental that I’ve decided to reinstate Rover’s “Vacation Rental of the Week” feature. Stay tuned for a stylish new holiday property every Wednesday! This particular apartment embodies everything good about renting a home away from home.
First of all, the house is in a perfect location. Tucked away on a residential street just steps from coffee shops, bakeries, stylish boutiques and a dozen top quality restaurants – living here, even on a temporary basis couldn’t be more convenient. Neve Tzedek is my favorite area of Tel Aviv, filled with historic buildings turned into chic lofts and apartments. The streets are narrow and pedestrian-friendly. There are cafes on every corner. And yet, with this rental, we were amazed to find convenient parking every day. That’s a huge plus in a crowded city and frankly we were astonished (and grateful) each time it happened!
The property’s unique style greets you at the decorative front gate. The blue door, small front patio, tall arched windows and hot-red bougainvillea blooms hint at what you’ll find inside.
Inside, the view of the living room, dining room and kitchen is fairly intimate, but your eye is immediately drawn to the arched windows and the huge, Moorish-style, punched tin chandelier. The colors are turquoise and shades of white, with a few (minimal) pops of indigo, jade and marsala in the tribal wall hangings and bathroom tiles.
(There was also an awesome pop of color provided by friend, travel partner and color-whisperer Kellie Smith’s BHE, as shown below. But just to be clear – he can not be referred to as “THE” BHE on this blog! Mr. H would not approve.)
This cool home has two bedrooms and two baths plus a long, galley kitchen with hip concrete countertops. The entire space has been renovated in a unique, slightly bohemian style that perfectly fits the neighborhood itself.
Here’s the second-floor hallway leading past a bedroom (on the right) and a complete wall of glass (on the left). The space was filled with wonderful, clear light throughout the day.
All of the interior doors and windows are glass, inset into turquoise-painted steel. Even the bathroom doors were given the same treatment, though the glass was frosted, for privacy.
Here’s what you see when you look out the exterior window – a view that mirrors the unique architecture of Tel Aviv. The small, charming homes of old neighborhoods like Neve Tzedek, and the sleek highrises of a modern metropolis.
Upstairs, on the third floor, is the large and well-equipped roof deck. You’ll find a small kitchen, a dining area, a lounge area – as well as a washer and dryer. Lying in the sun, looking up at the bright, blue sky, I can say I’ve never enjoyed washing my travel gear so much!
And meanwhile, just around the corner are the chic boutiques, cafes, bakeries, spas and restaurants – as well as the Suzanne Dellal Centre for Dance and Theatre.
This property is professionally manged by Rudy and Yael of Holyguest.com, a stylish Parisian couple who now manage holiday rentals throughout Israel. They were perfect hosts – even accommodating a very early arrival by Mr. H who flew in from Switzerland. The also left some nice, local treats in the kitchen for our arrival. And when we had a small challenge getting something to work properly, they couldn’t have been more attentive and efficient.
Originally, we found the property on AirBnb, but next time we’ll go right to the Holyguest website.
Thanks, Yael and Rudy for making such beautiful properties available, and for helping us all feel so welcomed and cared for. We can’t wait to visit again!
